There are basically two ways to do this. the most popular methodis to place a pointer on a smooth board with the alphabet andnumbers 0 to 9 and the words Yes and no on it. the pointers areready made with some store bought boards. if you do not have apointer you can use a small glass like a shot glass placed upsidedown on the board, usually this is done by between 2 and fourpeople gently placing their finger on the glass together. It paysto have a bit of atmosphere like subdued light and perhaps somevery quiet calm music in the background. the participants have aleader to keep things organized and it also pays to have someone tothe side with pen and paper to write down the results as theyhappen. In any case when you are all settled with the fingerslightly placed on the glass or pointer you wait. usually thepointer will start to move. now this can be because someone in thegroup is cheating or for other more mysterious reasons. At thispoint the leader asks "is there anyone there?" then with any luckthe pointer will start to move to the yes or to one of the lettersstop and d move on to the next letter until the question isanswered. you have to act seriously to get the best results bepolite when you ask questions and record everything on paper. Ihave been involved with this a few times and you can get someamazing effects and messages that imparted knowledge we could nothave had. An interesting version on the pointer that makes it evenmore difficult to cheat is to make simple cross from two pieces ofbalsa wood each piece of the cross being about 1' 6" long as thickas a piece of 3 ply and 1/4 wide make an equal cross out of it bymaking a hole in the center of each slat then putt a pointer (about3" long) through the holes to make a cross with a pointer pointingdown in the center. the cross is extremely light and is supportedon top of the fingers, it is not held by any one. this makes itjust about impossible to cheat
