Background
Biographical / Historical
Zeta Psi, Pi Sigma Chapter, was founded at Penn State in 1960 The chapter was originally a local fraternity, Pi Sigma Upsilon. Pi Sigma Upsilon was founded in 1954. In 1961 the chapter's Alumni Organization, the Pi Sigma Elder Chapter, was registered as a non-profit corporation with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. "Active" and "Elder" distinguish the undergraduate and alumni chapters of Pi Sigma, respectively. Among the purposes of the Elder Chapter are the promotion of continued fellowship, guidance and assistance of the Active Chapter (especially in matters financial, legal, and otherwise official), and to hold title to real estate. These latter purposes take up much of the energy of the Elder Chapter and generate much of its documentary records.
Scope and Contents
The majority of the records of the Pi Sigma Chapter of Zeta Psi, its predecessor Pi Sigma Upsilon, and the Pi Sigma Elder Chapter relate to the management of the Active Chapter, and its oversight by the Elder Chapter. Additionally, there are records of the Elder Chapter.

The Zeta Psi collection contains records from the Pi Sigma Chapter; its predecessor the local fraternity, Pi Sigma Upsilon; and the Pi Sigma Elder Chapter.
